With approval from the Ministry of Education and funding from the National Development Council, National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) partnered with WinWay, ASE, Yageo, OSE, Thinking Electronic, Taiflex, and Laser Tek Taiwan, 7 iconic companies in Kaohsiung, to invest NT$900 million in the establishment of College of Semiconductor and Advanced Technology Research.
President Tsai Ing-wen attended the unveiling and signing ceremony on July 22, 2022, and she was accompanied by the mayor of Kaohsiung and president of NSYSU.
NSYSU's College of Semiconductor and Advanced Technology Research will initially focus on semiconductor packaging and testing and industries related to electronic components, for which Kaohsiung is a world leader. The college is divided into the Institute of Precision Electric Components and the Institute of Advanced Semiconductor Packaging and Testing.
Talent is cultivated in alliance with businesses and WinWay is the only company to participate in both institutes. The program is designed to be a one-year university course with two years of corporate internship and research. A three-year course map has been formulated to teach academic knowledge and provide industry experience. Scholarships of nearly NT$1 million are also available. Students can directly enter related industries after graduation.
